PARK KYOUNGSUN
2020 SIPC Concert Artist Class second Prize Winner
Kyoungsun Park was born in 1992 inSouth Korea. He studied at Seoul National University with Hie-Yon Choi and at Royal College of Music in United Kingdom with Dmitri Alexeev.
Before joining University, he had been a prize winner of several competitions such as Korean Liszt Competition First Prize, Seoul Youth Chamber Music Competition Gold Prize, and Yewon Competition Gold Prize. During his bachelor’s studies, Park had received two full Scholarships which were given by Hyundai Car Foundation and Samick Musical Instruments Cooperation.
He made his significant debut on the concerto with Seoul National University Symphony Orchestra at the age of 20, as he was the winner of Concerto Audition. The concert was held at Seoul Arts Center-Concert Hall where Kyoungsun performed his own cadenza including jazz-style. He was interested in transcription as well; he had arranged <flight of the bumblebee for 2 pianos> which was performed by ensemble ‘Y us’ and ‘Piamor’.
In 2016, when he had started studying in London, the most amount of scholarship-ABSRM Scholarship was awarded to only two pianists who were attending Royal College of Music, and Park was the one of the pianists. At the end of the Master degree, he graduated from Royal College of Music with distinction.
Park won a couple of international competitions; Isang Yun International Music Competition: 2nd Prize, München Gasteig Music Prize: 1st Prize and Audience Prize, Japan International Open Piano Competition: First Prize, Chappell Medal Piano Competition 2018: Hopkinson Silver, Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition: 6th Prize, and received Finalist Prize in Coucours International de Piano de Lyon and Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition.
Kyoungsun received master classes from Vladimir Ashkenazy, Ian Hobson, Peter Frankl, Julian Martin, Jerome Roseand Matti Raekallio. He had performed as a soloist with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Mihail Jora Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacau, TIMF Orchestra, Daejeon Arts Orchestra, Korea University Orchestra and Smile Orchestra.
